For my tarot project.
Card 1: The Magician
Theme: Gothic Pagan
For this piece I used the traditional 'Magician' layout, with the objects on the table and the staff, but substituted a younger, darker figure for the usual old, wise, Merlin-figure, or the gaudy juggler/charlatan you find in some decks. I just thought the gothy Wiccan image is a lot more relevant to magic in the contemporary world.
The cat in the tree is not traditional. Small animals are traditional in card 0, the Fool- which I missed out in my version. I think the Magician lured the Fool's cat away to be his familiar. Maybe that's why the fool is sad.
I'm not thrilled with this piece, I must say. The silver gutta to do the facial features was a big mistake. But I quite like the colours.
